Mountaineer Athletic Club: West Virginia University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics
Membership in the Jerry West Society is offered exclusively to those donors who make commitments of support to the Mountaineer Athletic Club (MAC) in the form of planned gifts. The Jerry West Society is comprised of friends of WVU Intercollegiate Athletics who believe a strong athletic program can increase the University's national visibility, while enhancing individual character and University spirit. Methods of giving include bequests, trusts, annuities, directed retirement assets, life insurance and real estate. Planned giving through the Jerry West Society of the Mountaineer Athletic Club and the WVU Foundation is vital to the long-term future of Mountaineer athletics.

The Society was formed in 1996 and is named for Jerry West, WVU’s most famous student-athlete. In 1959 and 1960, West was a unanimous selection to nine different All-America teams. During his Mountaineer basketball career, he established records for scoring (2,309) and rebounding (1,240) before embarking upon a 14-year NBA career and induction into the NBA Hall of Fame. If you already have provisions in your will or already made any of the following gifts, we encourage you to contact the Mountaineer Athletic Club and become a member of the Jerry West Society. The qualifiing support includes:
  • Gift provision in your will or revocable trust
  • Income producing gift
  • Charitable lead trust
  • Testamentary gift of retirement assets
  • Life insurance policy or annuity policy
  • Gift of residence or farm with a retained life interest for yourself.
What is truly special about the Jerry West Society is that it gives us a chance to say something that is very important — thank you! At the same time, your participation can motivate others to follow your lead and lend support to WVU Intercollegiate Athletics through the many opportunities offered by the Mountaineer Athletic Club. Jerry West Society members are recognized in the following ways —

  • Name displayed on a plaque located in the WVU Coliseum
  • Recipient of memento featuring Jerry West
  • Invitations to exclusive MAC donor functions

If you have already designated the Mountaineer Athletic Club or the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as a beneficiary of your estate, but are NOT a member of the Jerry West Society, please contact the MAC to begin your membership. A gift to the Jerry West Society does not influence membership or ticket priority status based on annual giving requirements to the Mountaineer Athletic Club. All gifts are processed by the WVU Foundation, Inc. (501c3) and are tax deductible to the fullest extent.
