Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Mountaineer Athletic Club?
The Mountaineer Athletic Club (MAC) is the primary fund-raising arm of WVU Athletics. The Mountaineer Athletic Club’s mission is to provide annual scholarships for West Virginia University student-athletes and to develop private support for capital projects, endowments and other needs as prioritized by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Why should I donate to the Mountaineer Athletic Club?
Private support is essential to the success of WVU's intercollegiate athletic program. The WVU Athletics Department receives no financial assistance from the state of West Virginia, it is a self-funded entity, it is solely dependent upon sporting event revenue and fundraising to operate and provide student-athlete scholarships. The Mountaineer Athletic Club provides a way for individuals to help talented young people receive a quality education from West Virginia University while ensuring WVU's tradition of athletics excellence continues to grow.
What benefits do I receive for becoming member of the Mountaineer Athletic Club?
The Mountaineer Athletic Club is dedicated to providing an exciting and rewarding experience for its members. Mountaineer Athletic Club members receive a variety of spirited membership items which include, but are not limited to a MAC auto decal, invitations to MAC functions and priority seating options for football and basketball. A portion of all gifts are tax deductible. For a complete of additional benefits and corresponding donations levels, please refer to the 2010 Annual Giving and Season Ticket Priority Program brochure. Benefits reflect a donor's total contribution tabulated from December 1 through November 31 annually.
Is my donation tax deductible?
If your contribution includes an option to purchase tickets, 80% of your donation is tax deductible. For 100% tax deductibility of your annual gift, you must decline your rights to receive and benefits at the time you make your gift. Major gifts or contributions not associated with ticket priority are 100% tax deductible. Only the individual or company making the gift is eligible to take the tax deduction. Mountaineer Athletic Club donors will receive a receipt for tax purposes from the WVU Foundation
How do I become a member of the Mountaineer Athletic Club?
You can become a member of the Mountaineer Athletic Club by donating a minimum of $100 to the Mountaineer Athletic Club. There are a variety of ways to join/support the Mountaineer Athletic Club. Please see our Ways to Give page.
What happens if I do not return my season ticket application and payment by the deadline?
Due to extremely high demand for MAC priority seating, the deadline will be strictly enforced in 2010. Orders received after the deadline may result in the forfeiture of season tickets and/or parking passes. It is essential that donors renew their MAC membership at the same donor level classification (or higher) in order to retain the “priority” necessary to renew their season ticket and priority parking locations for the 2010 football season.
Please Note: Due to anticipated high demand, football season ticket availability cannot be guaranteed to all who join the Mountaineer Athletic Club in 2010. However, it is the goal and intention of the MAC and the Mountaineer Ticket Office to locate all new MAC donors in priority seating (sideline) sections at Milan Puskar Stadium.
If I join the MAC before the appropriate deadline(s) am I guaranteed a football season ticket option?
Due to anticipated high demand, football season ticket availability cannot be absolutely 100% guaranteed for all who join the Mountaineer Athletic Club in 2010. However, it is the goal and intention of the MAC and the Mountaineer Ticket Office to locate all new MAC donors in priority seating (sideline) sections at Milan Puskar Stadium
My company has a matching gift program. What do I need to do to make sure their matching gift is applied to my annual donation?
Contact the Mountaineer Athletic Club and we will assist you in your matching gift request. You can use the WVU Foundation's Matching Gift Search Engine to see if your employer with sponsor a matching gift.
I want to improve my seating. How does the upgrade process work?
All upgrades are based on your annual giving level and availability. Unfortunately, not all requests can be honored. Upgrade requests should be made in writing and submitted with your season ticket application (not your MAC membership application). Be specific on your request. Mention the desired location, section or row. Also, include several options for your desired seat changes.
Is parking guaranteed to all donors?
Parking is limited at Milan Puskar Stadium. In order to improve your chances of receiving reserved parking for the season, please have your MAC gift and season ticket order forms submitted prior to the priority deadlines. (Please see the Important Dates and Deadlines page). A reserved parking pass option is also available for basketball season ticket holders at the Director donor purchase level and up.
Do I need to purchase a ticket for my infant/child, even though he/she will not occupy a seat?
All persons, including children, must have a ticket for admission. This includes infants.
When are season tickets and parking passes mailed?
Football season tickets are mailed in August. Basketball season tickets are mailed in early November. Parking passes are mailed under separate cover from season tickets.
